Quit Resisting

Lately, I have found myself resisting. Resisting the things that I know for sure would bring me extreme joy and a sense of peace. Have you ever been in this space? The space of feeling like you know exactly what you need to do to make you snap out of it, yet you CHOOSE not to?
That is where I have been for a few weeks now. I am just now aware of it, and I am working on climbing and digging my way out of it.

It can be hard to understand how to get out of that space. It feels like nothing is going as planned. Nothing is happening in your favor. The people you talk to don't understand what you are trying to say, your coworkers look at you like you are speaking a foreign language, and you don’t feel connected to your friends, family, or significant other like you want to. Something's gotta give!
There are a few things that I have done in the past that have helped me refocus my energy on tasks that will help lead me to accomplish my goals. They seem so easy and simple compared to what you feel like you should be doing, but Rome wasn’t built in a day! It takes a gazillion little steps to create a huge lifestyle change. You also have to remember that when you decide to make a change, there are going to be tons of obstacles or barriers that you are going to have to push through. The NUMBER ONE barrier is...DRUMROLL Puuuuhhhh--leeeaaasssseeeee!!! Y-O-U! Yes, you read that correctly. You are going to be your number one barrier.
When we are in the cycle of resisting, it’s for a reason. Fear, low self-confidence, or lack of motivation are just a few. Have you ever wanted to try something new like a new art class or try socializing with a new group of people, or even wearing a new pair of jeans you saw on TV? What stopped you from taking that art class? What stopped you from going to dinner with the new friend group? What stopped you from rocking those jeans? Were you afraid of what other people might say about you? Were you afraid of failing or looking like a complete idiot?
Trust me!!! We have all been there. We let the “what-if” thoughts from ourselves about what other people “might say” get in the way of our happiness. Why do we do that? WHY?
It’s because we have learned to let the negative self-talk in our heads overpower us. Those racing thoughts that don’t even really exist are at the top of our minds when we want to venture out and try something new. There is a way to take control of your thoughts and stop resisting the happiness and peace that you desire.
Input Positivity
When I realized that I was in a “funk space”, I knew that I needed to get back on track before I ended up exactly where I was years ago. Trust me, that Kellye is not it!!! Sad, overeating, bitter, and super depressed and anxious. I immediately decided that when I woke up the next morning, the first thing I would do is grab the self-help book that I was reading off and on, and dive deeper. By reading the inspirational words first thing in the morning, I felt a shift in my mind, body, and soul. I felt like I could accomplish so much just by starting my day with something that brought me so much joy and peace. Reading words of encouragement rather than watching “trash tv” or scrolling on social media, helped me start my day with a fresh, positive mind frame.
You Is Smart, You Is Kind, You Is Important
Taking some advice from an amazing movie, The Help, speak greatness into your life! Look into the mirror and tell yourself all the great things you feel and know about yourself. Create a list on a sticky note and stick it on the mirror and read it every morning. Saying the positive words out loud and hearing them constantly will help you walk right into what you are calling.
Take a Break
Get out of your head, girl! Take some time to breathe and think. Alone time will help you clear your mind so that you can create a plan to get up and out of that hole you’ve dug yourself in. Let the people you love and care for know that you need some time. Time to think and figure things out. Even if it’s just for an hour. That hour of free time can change your life. Don’t allow your whole world to blow up because you didn’t take a break.
Ok so listen, I can’t tell you what to do. I can’t force you. No one forced me years ago and no one is forcing me now. It’s a choice. I have a choice to make every single day about how I want to feel, what I want to do, and how I experience peace, and so much more.
Don’t resist the urge to do the damn thing! Whatever it is that will help you climb out of the muddy mess you may be in. Do it.
I love you and you should Love Yourself, Girl!
